I have access to a nice pond (3 acres or so). It's very shallow in about 70 percent of it, then drops off to 24 ft. (It's an old strip mine pond) There is almost NO vegetation in the pond, and it's my belief that this fact explains that there are almost no ducks landing on it. The geese seem to loaf on it quite a bit during daylight hours, but very very few ducks. My question is....have any of you duck hunters had any success planting cover in a pond and actually drawing ducks? Even milo or winter wheat around the edges? I'd love to make this place my private little "honey hole", but I'm afraid that water alone won't draw the birds that I need to make it a good place. I'm open to any suggestions you may have on what to plant, and whether to plant it in the shallow (6" or so) water, or on the banks around the pond. Anxiously awaiting your replies!! scout Scout

I Googled "duck food plots" and found several mixs that you could try. Most are for planting on a drained area then flooded after it grows. Here is one that you could plant in the shallow water and shore. Here Hope this helps.
I do not know how much you are looking to spend but go to refuge forums and look up a guy named Honker Guide. Here is a thread on it. Get a hold of him. He has it figured out pretty darn good.
